About

“Carnet d’Indonésie” was inspired by a trip I took in 2017. Exploring the archipelago made me want to extend the experience in a different way: by delving deeper into topics related to the places I visited and by sharing information about their landscapes, history and cultures.

The origins of "Carnet d’Indonésie"

In 2024, as part of a career change, I went back to study UI/UX design. It was during this course that I began creating Carnet d’Indonésie, a project that allowed me to put the skills I’d learnt into practice. The following year, I undertook a course in search engine optimisation (SEO). I then resumed the work I’d started to finalise the content, refine its structure and prepare the site for launch.

From field findings to an understanding of cultures

From Bali to Java, right through to Komodo National Park, the structure of *Carnet d’Indonésie* reflects my journey through the archipelago. Each destination covered corresponds to a discovery made during this trip.

The topics are varied: landscapes, natural phenomena, heritage, and cultural or spiritual traditions and practices. Beyond simply presenting these sites, my aim is to provide explanations that offer a better understanding of their history, their environment and the cultures associated with them.

‘Carnet d’Indonésie’ is neither a travelogue nor a tourist guide. It is an informative and cultural project aimed at those who wish to deepen their knowledge of Indonesia.

An approach combining fieldwork and desk research

The observations I made during my stay form the starting point for the editorial work. These are supplemented by documentary research aimed at verifying the information and exploring the historical, natural and cultural aspects of each subject in greater depth.

Photographs also play a part in this process. Some are my own photographs, taken during the trip. For other illustrations, I use images from royalty-free photo libraries when my own photographs are not sufficiently suited to the subject at hand.

‘Carnet d’Indonésie’ thus brings together personal discoveries and documented information, with the aim of providing insights into an archipelago whose diversity extends far beyond its landscapes.

Finally, I dedicate this website to my friend Momo, who was the inspiration behind this trip to Indonesia; she enabled me to discover this archipelago and to meet some incredibly kind people there, whom I remember fondly.
